Sounds of the Real World

I spent an hour in the city roaming around. Central Park seemed like a nice area to go, where I would be able to hear the loud noises of the city from a slight distance. For the most part I closed my eyes and sat down so I could fully pay attention to the sounds. This turned out to be a fabulous idea because I was able to isolate sounds from one another. I was able to hear the wind blow the tree branches, creating a sort of soothing ambient noise of branches clashing with one another. Other background sounds included the foot steps of people walking, the sound of the bicyclers breaking and the wheels rolling down the narrow walkways of the park. These sounds build the basic ambient sounds of the city. However, there are many other sounds that come to more of the forefront of the soundscape. I focused a lot on the breaks of cars. They would make this piercing high pitched screech, but the sound that really came to the front was the honking of cars and the complex noise of construction within the park. Construction has a plethora of sounds. You can hear the motors running, the chiseling of stone, moving of wood by machine, and beeping from machinery. I guess, I noticed how intricate a sound is and what roll it plays in the overall soundscape.
